I’m very sad to report that Colin McRae and co-driver Tina Thorner (Nissan) have been forced to retire from the Dakar following a serious accident on Wednesday's 492km stage from Smara to Zouerat. The Scot rolled at the 410km point and was back to the bivouac at Zouerat in Mauritania where he was diagnosed with blurred vision. It could have been much worse for Colin and Tina. I had an accident very similar to what Colin had. I was in FIRST PLACE and was forced out by another car into some off track advertising. The rest is history, but I know Colin is in a state of disappointment right now that has cancelled out the fact that him and his navigator have cheated death as did I. I hope Colin and Tina (the poor bird) will recover form their injuries and grow stronger from this event. It just goes to show you that you’re not eight tall and bulletproof just cause you’re at the top of the tree. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Colin’s coming back to fight.
